I've settled on setting the WB off a white card - with the IR filter in 
place. It puts a little color in the shot which I like - though just 
putting the white balance eye dropper on a while cloud in ACR gets close 
to the same effect.

These two shots make an interesting comparison - same scene shot with 
digital IR (Hoya RM90 and *ist-D) and medium format Maco IR820 with a 
#25 red filter:

I like the digital IR version better, even though the light was not as nice.
