I made an error in that I wasn't clear enough - when I wrote:

I should have asked:

a prime lens in the 12 to 20mm focal length.

The photog already has a zoom covering 18-200mm.  18mm on a 1.5 crop
sensor gives an angle of view similar to a 27mm lens on a 'full frame'
camera. I'm thinking of a prime lens that will be suitable for
landscape / nature work around the 12, maybe 14mm mark. Someone has
already suggested Nikon 14 and 18mm, and the 20 2.8

Is there such a thing as a lens compatibility web site for Nikons, along
the lines of Boz's site?
