Thanks, Pete. Based on what I've read the SP1000 and SP500 really aren't all that different functionally. I did mis-read the flash sync chart for the SP500. Both the 500 and 1000 manuals suggest maximum X sync at 1/8 for M class bulbs and 1/15 for F class. It's interesting that you were able to get good exposures at 1/30.
