The EF 65mm MP-E macro lens will go up to 5:1 magnification which is
pretty impressive and will accept the ringflash. This page will be of use:

Working distance is very close at high mag though - helps if your bugs
are dead :

For greater working distances he/she really needs the EF 180mm 3.5 macro
but that's not cheap. Mind you, neither are ring flashes ! 

Funnily enough I am on the verge of selling some Canon lenses and the
65mm macro is one of those. I haven't priced it up yet, but I'm thinking
in the region of £450 or so but if in the USA you'd be better of buying there.

Pentax content: I'm keeping my 1DmarkII and converted A*85mm 1.4 and
K15mm 3.5 lenses. Cold dead hands and all that :-)
