If he was bringing you CDs that looked like that, then he was not  
creating the discs properly.  Sounds like he was just writing the  
whole "tree structure" to CD without using the export function.  So  
you were seeing the "behind the scenes" directory structures - which  
are a bit ugly.

Gaul?  I don't think that Apple is from Italy.  :-)

I find iPhoto very useful and easy to use for making web galleries,  
but I don't use it to archive everything I ever import from the  
camera.  For organizing "event-specific" collections of photos it's  
quite handy and useful.
