No idea here either, but it seems to work very well for the things  
I've needed to do with it, with minimal flare or other problems. I  
always use such filters with as much lens hood as I can anyway.

Just like with lenses, I simply take care not to scratch them. I've  
never had a filter or lens damaged by being scratched in my hands ...  
although I've bought a couple that were scratched by other people.

No idea. I usually buy from B&H Photo ... consistency, reliability,  
good service are worth a couple of extra dollars.
