Jack, Regardless of what OS you're using, you put files in the trash and then empty the trash on the GIGA the same way you do it with all your other computer files, when the GIGA is connected to your computer. I don't know how you do this explicitly in Windows Vista, I run Mac OS X ... but you might look it up in the system help.
Otherwise, move the files to the computer, dismount and disconnect the GIGA. Start up the GIGA as a standalone and use whatever controls it offers as a standalone device to delete the files. It *has* to have them. Formatting a drive simply to delete files is generally not the right thing to do. You could inadvertently wipe out other things that you shouldn't. Assuming the GIGA supports user formatting, you should review the instruction booklet it came with to determine what you should do for that.
