Patrick, the SR system won't be useles, it will be less effective asit willact as for a 300mm focal length and not a 420mm.
Also, the SR system will NOT ask for focal length since it receives it. Also, you will NOT be able to enter it yourself (a bug IMO). It will work with 300mm as focal length.
