Or if you got it from one of the big box stores, improper storage ... or
worse.

I had a customer return a disposable camera the other day. Told me "I
got the digital to work, so I didn't need it."

Since she then proceeded to the kiosk and printed off 50 or so images
from her weekend at the beach, where do you think that disposable camera
spent the weekend? And what do you think the next customer who bought
the camera would get when they had the film developed?

I marked it as defective and put it into the bin to be destroyed, but I
don't think anyone else who works there would have known there was a
problem. If I hadn't been there, it would have ended back out on the
sales floor.

But the biggest problem I've seen in the last week or so is these
horrible jpegs.

They look like smears of blocks on the print. It's obvious it was a low
res jpeg to begin with - whoever had the camera set it to get the most
possible images on the memory card - and then they've been saved over
and over again.

Occasionally, one of the customers will say something like "All my
pictures have a little triangle with an exclamation point. Are my
pictures going to be ok?"

Unfortunately, the answer is NO, they're going to look like crap. Even
after I've shown them what the print is going to look like by using a
zoom & crop function, about half of them decide to print the pictures
anyway.

Then they're upset, and want me to take the blame because the pictures
DO look like crap.
