I more usually need a shade to see through the optical finder of my SLR cameras as, with glasses, light leaking around the finder in sunny circumstances makes it harder to see the image and information display than an LCD display using my hand as a shade. In extreme situations, however, a Hoodman LCD viewing loupe is a godsend for tripod work.
