Minor correction on your terminology -
What you have is not a telephoto lens; rather, you have a tele-
converter and three extension tubes. The tele-converter, which has
one or more lens elements as part of its design, is added between a
lens and the camera body, the the extra distance from the body
serving to narrow the lens effective field of view (i.e., to make
your lens act like a longer (telephoto) lens, and the extra lens
element(s) acting to maintain a proper focusing of the image on the
focal plane (film or sensor). The extension tubes push the lens away
from the body and focal plane, also having the effect of a narrower
field of view, hence a magnified image. Without the compensating lens
element(s), lenses used with extension tubes can no longer focus
beyond a relatively short distance (depending on the length of the
tube.)
