Adam,
I don't know the 35/2, but the 40/2.8 "pancake" (which I have), although
an interesting lens at a slighly unusual focal lenght, is not as sharp
as many other contemporary lenses.

IMHO you can't beat the sharpness and low price of a 50/1.7. Even a
50/1.4 would probably be cheaper than the 40mm which have a "collector's
item" reputation, and they are both much faster then the pancacke.

Ciao, Flavio

Adam,

Great advice...I was thinking of going with a slightly shorter focal
length, as you have suggested. I will do a bit of searching on eBay
for the two lenses you have mentioned. What would be a proper price
for these? As you know, it is sometimes difficult to discern what is
truly a "good deal"--especially on eBay.
