I found the following comparison on photo net in the Pentax 67 forum. I hope the author doesn't sue me for breach of copyright
"I've used both lenses extensively and must say I prefer the performance of the 105 mm at middle apertures in landscape applications. The 90 is quite uniform in contrast and sharpness across the whole aperture range (shooting the same scene at f/2.8, f/8 and f/22 showed good contrast and average sharpness at the plane of focus). But it seems to be near-sighted in the sense it does not deliver far-away details sharply such as the 105 does. I once made a 4 feet X 8 feet Duratrans of a country scene with the 105 and you could see small holes in the roof of a barn several kilometers away. The 90 cannot resolve such fine details. As for glare, the 90 veils easily when the sun shines near or just outside the periphery of the photogram while the 105 never veils in the same circumstances. Otherwise, it is when used close-up that the 90 shines as it focuses to 60 cm and seems to have a flatter field. I have come to use both lenses in particular circumstances where I know one will be superior to the other, but overall, for landscapes, I prefer the 105 mm. I now have a 75 mm f/2.8 that delivers tremendous picture quality (extremely sharp, close focusing and it can resolve the sun dead-on without veiling at all) and I think I will get rid of the 90 as it sits right between the 75 and the 105 and it cannot really compete with any of them. " Regards, R. Laroche I own the 105mm and the 90-180 zoom myself and they are both excellent. I also remember that one of the brotherhood found one of the 2.8 lenses to be prone to pincushion distortion but I can't remember if it was the 75mm or the 90mm. Finally you could look at http://members.aol.com/dcolucci/p67ss.htm This grades all the lenses ever made. Both the zooms do well but they are big and heavy and slower. Good luck from a very junior member of this particular brotherhood Regards Peter -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
