OK, I could have accepted this but I don't change the scene I'm doing the reading from so the EV value of metered scene doesn't change. If it is within metering range for one reading, why would it be out of range for other? MX does meter the light wirh aperture full open so it doesn't metter if I set f/2 or f/22, or does it do somehow differently? I've just read Alan's answer so I know what's going on. OTOH metering range is something of a pain in the neck - I recently tried to shot something with my MZ-M with f/4.0-5.6 lenses and I was surprised how much light I can still see which camera seems to ignore allready. I have the Owner's Manual in pdf format from http://perso.club- internet.fr/jvila/pentax.html but unfortunately it looks like a jpeg compressed (including text) so I must have skipped it. Now I see it - there is a chart on p.22 showing for what shutter speeds I get green LED reading depending on ISO setting. Thank you very much - that's a great relief for me. Also thanks for not giving me RTFM which would be apprioprate in this case :-) This list has been put up as an example of how people should behave on discussion lists in an article in Polish photo magazine (in an article about MZ-S). Author is reading this list so he knows what he writes and I second his opinion. Do you know why is it this way? Will I still get correct exposures if changing from shorter shutter speed and bigger aperture opening? Seems to me that I will (if it's only meter reading problem) but I want to be sure.
