I wouldn't expect a straight answer out of a camera shop either.

For K-mount lenses without contacts, you need to do one or more of the
following steps:

1. Upgrade the firmware (*istD)
2. Set the custom menu function that allows the shutter to release
with a non-A lens (same option that makes screwmount lenses work).
3. Set the camera to M mode (manual exposure)
4. Use either the green button (*istD/K10D) or the AE-lock
(DS/DS2/DL/DL2/K100D/K110D) to stop down the lens and meter.
