I've experimented with it some. I can see some situations where using an adjustment to the AWB base settings could help a bit, like for instance if you were going to be doing a lot of indoor shooting under tungsten light it would make the in-camera JPEGs a lot closer to what you wanted.
Since I use RAW capture the vast majority of the time and use Lightroom for processing, it doesn't really do much to reduce my workflow, however.
