I've said this many times before (it's a pet peeve of mine around here you, may say), but it seems to me that the rumours of the death of the old Pentax line-up are highly exaggerated. If you check the Pentax Japan website you'll find that a large proportion of the lenses people say are discontinued, are in fact listed as current. Or you might just have a look at the B&H photo or Adorama web pages. Not only do they have many "discontinued" lenses in stock, but it also seems evident that they are able to get more of them once they run out.
It seems to me that people are confusing out of production with discontinued. As far as I understand, all camera companies produce their lenses in batches to a certain degree, and just because a lens is not being produced right now, you should not assume it's not in the line-up anymore. It may well be that production was temporarily halted because there is already stock to last for a long time. > Look at nikon they have > a very coherent lens line up . 14-24 f/2.8, 24-70 f/2.8, 70-200 > f/2.8, 200-400 f/4 etc... > > And one more thing... My only recent new purchase was an FA-50/1.4, but getting that could hardly have been easier. And incidentally, this is an item that some people say was discontinued a couple of years ago... > Pentax needs to move fast if it is serious about taking market share > from the current market dominators. > > Rgds > > Patrick > > -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
