 The Tokina I got secondhand came with a multicoated Hoya UV filter.  No 
vignetting problems at all because the thread (58mm?) is quite large relative to 
the front element.

 If its the 17/3.5 SL you're talking about its a really good lens for the price.   
Distortion is about the same as the Pentax, sharpness and light falloff is not 
quite as good (but the lenses are very close when stopped down to f/8).  Its 
weak point is contrast and flare.
