Sadly that's exactly the behavior my original lens had, except that I was able to watch the "haze" spread from one side to the other over time. It was very disheartening, especially as at the time the Pentax was no longer repairing them. However since then supposedly Pentax has started repairing them again. Maybe they found a bin of spare parts. The quoted price I heard, was ~$85, but that was about a year ago, (I was able to pick up a refurbished one for a bit less than that).
