Yes, and it took even Nikon years to catch up. Even the D2's aren't as fast to AF as 1998's EOS 3. But you can't get into the uber-fast Canon's for reasonable money(A 1DmIIN is the ebst bet, in the $3000+ range). Right now it looks like the low-cost AF king will be the D300 from Nikon. The 30D/40D are pretty good though.
