Hi,
all the heated discussion on Optio 430 (and, of course, on digital
in general) made me ask something I was wondering for a long time.
An NGO I work as a volunteer will buy some digital camera if the
grant request is successful. They asked me some advice on it, too.
And it interests me as well.

Could I get here some comparsion, or bad points, or good points, on usage, of the
very few true SLRs (with fixed, non removable lens of course, and
"true" - with mirror, either pellicle or prism or moving mirror, no
   sh*t LCD "slr").

from the product reviews I rarely get the truly bad points, or the
truly useful points, like what info is in viewfinder, speed of
zooming, cache size => speed of saving big images, fps,... quality
   of viewfinder,...

The models are like Pentax EI 2000 (was there ever an 3000?),
Olympus camedia 2500, perhaps some other similar cameras exist.

The E10 is out for its big price tag (and it's not a really such pro
body <g>. I played with it, and was disappointed. It seemed like a
great finished machine from what I saw first, but after using it -
it needs much more work on it yet - VERY dim
viewfinder, strange AF which doesn't work properly with the 0.8x
lens+hood attached, POOR viewfinder information,... And that's from
a company which produced Oly OM-3 and OM-4, among the best 35mm
   cameras of all time!).

We need something not much expensive, with at least 2MP
(preferably more), true mirror/prism viewfinder (no LCD cheating),
preferably with fast lens, rapid zoom action. All in all, a camera
that can be used for reportage. Is this possible with the EI2000 or
Oly 2500 or similar cameras? Or are they too slow for this? I am
asking for REAL EXPERIENCE FROM THE FIELD. THANKS!!!

Good light,
 Frantisek Vlcek
