I owned the DA14 first ... it was the only new lens I bought when I
bought the *ist DS at the beginning of 2005. All my other lenses at
that time were Pentax A and M primes bought used.

The 35 and 50 are/were excellent and I did quite a lot of work with
them, particularly the 35mm. However, when I got the 28, I found I
didn't use the 35 much any more, and I'd already pretty much stopped
using the 50. When I bought the 43, I found I didn't use the 35 and
50 at all anymore, sold them. (I had the 35 and 50 for almost two
years; within three months, I'd made very nearly the same number of
exposures with the 43 that I'd made with both of the 35 and 50 in
total.) Similarly, after a couple more months, I found I wasn't using
the 28 mm either.

This 14/21/43/70 kit just works well for me: I never find myself
looking for a focal length in-between. Trying to explain it logically
doesn't seem to work. ;-)
