Thanks Charles. I hear you on the elevation and angle. This photo was made with the tripod as high as I could set it. It was actually well over my head, I could NOT see through the viewfinder at all. I'd have liked to get a teeny bit closer with just a little bit more down-angle, but I couldn't get any closer to tip the camera down for separation as the tripod legs would show up in the frame. To adjust framing, I used the digital preview function to make snaps and had to evaluate what was on the LCD looking at it rather obliquely. Awkward but it worked ... took about four-five preview captures to get the framing and focus where I wanted. A Live View with an articulated LCD would have been a big asset for much of the day's shooting. I used this technique with digital preview on the K10D a lot of the time in very dim circumstances. I have Live View on the L1 (albeit without the articulated mount on the LCD) and find it to be a very very useful feature for a lot of tripod based work; it also cuts down on your time to do tests for exposure adjustment as you can see the histogram, live, on the display.
