The shutter button activates the combined mirror and stop-down mechanism.
When the mirror is completely up, its mechanism in turn activates the
shutter opening. The shutter is closed by a mechanical lever which is
triggered either electronically or mechanically depending on the mode dial
setting. When the shutter is fully closed a latch on its mechanism activates
the mirror return.

Now - the problem is most likely to be a misalignment between the shutter
mechanism and the mirror assembly. They are two separate die-cast
sub-assemblies screwed together using six (IIRC) screws. The trigger for the
mirror return is absolutely tiny, so alignment is very important.

If you managed to wind-on the transport with the mirror locked I suspect
that you cocked the shutter but not the mirror. Most likely some small knock
or movement between the two sub-assemblies caused the mirror to come back
down.

In any case, I would suggest that you have the camera professionally
repaired.
