I'm pretty sure the dental lenses came with a dedicated (to the lens, not 
necessarily camera) ring flash.

Amazingly bad for a Pentax (I presume) 50mm f/1.4 lens. Valentin mentioned 
one time that injudicious use of unsharp mask can screw with the bokeh, but 
others have disagreed with this.
I think your typo should be an actual term, BTW. It's very descriptive.
