Thanks for all the replies, and to those offlist - I'm sorted now. No, it's not for any conversions or any grinding. It's to fit my new (well, new to me) K50 1.4 that arrived this morning (with UV filter but sans front cap). What a smashing lens - I'm really pleased with it. Acres of loverly glass and bokeh looks good wide open - hope to get some PESOs up with it soon.
BTW, the lens cap was in the house - in my wife's *ist Ds kit - the camera and 18-55 lens is attched and living in a small small LowePro, with hood in place.
