You've pretty much summed up my own analysis of these shots: The first 
two are "almost-nut-not-quite" kind of shots. The light wasn't *quite* 
good enough to achieve the effect I wanted (and there's an intruding 
branch in the upper left that kind of spoils the first shot for me). I 
might try B&W renderings some time in the future... 
I think the bridge shot might work better with *less* contrast. Perhaps 
I'll knock down the black levels s bit.

But in general, these fall short of the "magic" that you can sometimes 
achieve when the time, place and light are just right.
