It's called Black Friday because U.S. retailers hope their sales year will get into the black by having lots of shoppers buying their presents early the day after the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday. I think it's crazy to flock to a store during the early hours to get a "bargain." I heard in the news that some woman would spend $2000 US on this day.
Jim A. ============== I thought it was called Black Friday because stores open early (when it's still dark) and stay open late (after it gets dark). Ergo, it's a long, dark shopping day. I read that explanation somewhere recently, anyway. I never heard it called Black Friday though, before this year. I guess I wasn't paying attention.
