If you are using the web browser (Safari) to access your gmail account, the latest Software Updates included a new major release of Safari (v2.x.x to v3.0.4). This *might* require that you purge the cache (menu command "Safari -> Empty Cache...") so that a web application like the gmail client can reload its data properly.
