I don't know about "not keeping up" in either direction. They're all doing ok. Pentax has some unique values, as well as Nikon and Canon. Nikon and Canon both have a large investment into in-lens IS equipment and have multiple sensor formats to manage, Canon in particular (1.6x, 1.3x, 1x sensors). Why they might want to do in- body IS is an interesting marketing question to ponder.
