I have a confession to make. I subscribe to more than one mailing list. In fact, I subscribe to about 8, only two of which are photo-specific. The rest are bicycle and Linux lists of one sort or another.
One of these lists is a very on-topic discussion of lightweight steel bicycles of a specific vintage. They have no eBay rule. They encourage eBay "outings". And they're all a bunch of rich old bastards trying to regain a bit of their youth, which means no bicycle is too expensive and no bid is too high. Last week I was watching a hand made German bicycle (Italian steel and French components, go figure). $75 with about a day to go when it was "outed" to the list. By the time the auction closed the bids had approached $600. And every single fucking bid after that first $50 was from a member of "the list". Tonight, a French bicycle with less than a day to go. Currently at $50. It's a mere 45 or 50 miles from my home. And it was outed a few minutes ago. Basically, I have no chance in hell of buying this bicycle anymore. So anyway, I'd like to thank the PDML for not being a bunch of dicks. -- Scott Loveless http://www.twosixteen.com/fivetoedsloth/ -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
