Just grabed a shot that shows more or less the lighting.

I focused manually on the guitar, but as you can see, the stuff in the
back ground is in perfect focus, using my eye not the focus
confirmation info.. Look at the green guitar.

I use a Nikon 18-70 inside for my equine shots(flash ) and the
lighting is almost non existent, but get a decent success rate. I
don't know why all of these were off. At first i thought it was just
low shutter speeds and motion blur, but then i noticed all the back
grounds we;re OOF. II shot at f 1.7/2 most of the time so i should
have shallow DOF.
