Quite ingenious :-) I do my dogs' nails in a similar way. Handheld dremel with rotary drum. Grinds down the tips. I was always nicking the quick on at least one of the nails when I used nail clippers. Can be pretty messy. Worst I get now is nail dust up my arm.
