That depends on the particular printer and the quality of the driver for networked use. I connect the printers via a USB hub to my desktop system. I have the desktop system set up to share them over the wireless network (which is of course password protected with encryption turned on) so that I can print from the laptop when I'm sitting in the other room, assuming the desktop system is powered up.
