I forgot to mention that the specimens can be as thin as 2 mm wide and I 
need to balance it for dorsal, ventral and lateral shots (Top, bottom 
and side).

I only need to photograph from directly above so this might work.  I 
like the idea of using the perspex and I will probably make a series of 
stands with shaped tops to support the specimens.  Shaping the tops 
should be easy with a dremel tool.  I seem to be photographing more and 
more of these tiny things for the museum so they won't go to waste.

I do like the idea of the gravity generator and I will admit that was my 
first thought, then came telekinesis.
