Thanks for your comments all, I think I will play a little more with the 
filter.

I will rotate a little as Rick suggested, I was quite surprised with how 
straight I got it really, considering it was hand held, through the IR 
filter you can see nothing ;-) I don't normally get it that straight 
when I can see through the viewfinder!

Much of the cloud is high whispy stuff, but there are lots of contrails 
too. The photo was taken at Wakehurst Place

which is only about 10 miles from Gatwick Airport, and not too far from 
the other London airports so contrails around here are a fact of life. 
Pity really.
