Marnie, please understand that I'm not offering the attached as a
BETTER version. I, also, hope it's OK I did it.
I,first, went to PSE5 Enhance menu (Light/Shadow slider) and slightly
lightened all shadows. I then used the Magic Wand tool and lightened
the sky.
I see some slight glow around the top of the trees, but not along the
top of the garage.
For overall effect, I sort of like your "dark mystery" version.

======================
Doesn't look bad, Jack, but lost too many dark tones in building and ground,
so I'd probably add darken highlights or increase contrast on mid tones
(pretty conversant with PS E 5, someday gonna get as conversant with PS CS#.
:-))
But you see, the problem with the tree tops is why I don't want to do a
selection on the sky, cleaning that up takes too much time. As it was,
converting
to B&W I still had some haloing around the tree tops, so had to go in and
burn at about 10% around their edges to get rid of it.

I'll play with it though. Downloaded a copy of yours to my computer so you
can take it down now.

I think my big question now is if I straighten out the end of the building
(on the right). The lines of the end post and building could be a bit
straighter. I am thinking of distorting and bringing the bottom corner down a
bit so
it's more a triangular wedge (whole building). Tried that already on another
version and looks fine.

Not sure that's what William meant about playing with the perspective
though. :-)

Actually for spooky effect the darker sky is better. Hadn't really thought
of that until Roman and Derby pointed it out, though.

Thanks for your effort, flattering/nice when someone takes the time.

Marnie aka Doe :-)
