The 'paranoid' on DPReview have already responded.

In-box configurations are very expensive to change. A firmware rev  
change is an in-box configuration change. All K10Ds ship with v1.0  
firmware other than the special edition GP units.

Improvements to manufacturing processes do not imply an in-box  
configuration change.
