I gather the user has no control over the MP count once a DX lens (1.5
crop) is mounted.
If, as I understand it, a 5.1MP mask is applied to the 12.1MP sensor, 
thereby leaving a remainder of 7.0MP.(?)
As usual, I'm likely over simplifying a vague understanding.
