Samsung has been working to get into photographic equipment for years. They owned both Rollei and Schneider for some time during the late 1980s and into the 1990s. Later Rollei bought themselves out of the relationship, and have at very least a controlling interest in Schneider as well. Schneider produces lenses, optical glass, filters (sold under Heliopan and B+W labels) and are a CZG competitor in lens design at the high end of the game. Of course, they have a line of their own compact digicams as well. Their relationship with Pentax is simply yet another interest into the photographic world.
