Welcome to the PDML. I hope to see more of your photography. This is  
a nice start. Good light, good framing. Generally, you should try to  
avoid clutter. the background is a bit busy for a shot like this, and  
one of the verticals bisects the dog's head. The foreground clutter  
should have been removed. That being said, I know that with shots of  
dogs and kids,  one frequently must shoot when they sit still for a  
moment, regardless of where that might be. One other point: With most  
subjects, verticals that are perpendicular to the baseline are more  
pleasing and more natural. You can easily achieve this after the fact  
by rotating in PhotoShop or Elements and then cropping as necessary.
