That's what they used to call this city:  Toronto the Good.  Up to
about 30 years ago, Toronto was as puritan a city as there was in the
world.  Bars were closed Sundays, restaurants weren't allowed to serve
booze on Sundays, "ladies" had to be accompanied by "escorts" if they
wanted a drink, the city officially shut up tight as a drum at
midnight, but in reality, there wasn't much of a night-life at all.
You could fire a cannon down Yonge Street (the main drag) after about
6pm, and not hit a soul.

Toronto was as clean a city as you could find.  Jaywalking and
littering laws were actually enforced.  Tourists marvelled that it was
"like an American city, but with no crime or garbage".  You could
practically eat off the sidewalks.
