That's what they used to call this city: Toronto the Good. Up to about 30 years ago, Toronto was as puritan a city as there was in the world. Bars were closed Sundays, restaurants weren't allowed to serve booze on Sundays, "ladies" had to be accompanied by "escorts" if they wanted a drink, the city officially shut up tight as a drum at midnight, but in reality, there wasn't much of a night-life at all. You could fire a cannon down Yonge Street (the main drag) after about 6pm, and not hit a soul.
Toronto was as clean a city as you could find. Jaywalking and littering laws were actually enforced. Tourists marvelled that it was "like an American city, but with no crime or garbage". You could practically eat off the sidewalks. All that's changed: http://tinyurl.com/2lcqse http://bp0.blogger.com/_EaTEtfR4WJw/R8gH-BqmweI/AAAAAAAABmE/IoLu7d_aJzg/s1600-h/feb_29_08+002.jpg Obviously a companion-piece to Hey Sailor, but I thought this one worked better in B&W.
