the trouble with it is that there are 2 large blocks of white / off-white which distract from the subject matter. The guy's face, and what he's doing, are great and I can see why you were so attracted to the shot. But it's an unfortunate fact of life that in a black and white photograph anything white or near white pulls your eye straight to it and ruins the rest of the shot.
