I've never used them.

To me, the notion of scene modes ought to be as "progam pre-sets" for  
configuration parameters tailored to specific shooting circumstances.  
They should not imply capture or in-camera processing modes and  
settings, they should be applying appropriate, well-known settings for  
exposure and focusing.

If they're doing something other than that, well, it's no wonder I've  
never used them. None of my current cameras even have them... ;-)
