My feeling is that it is best to stick with the manufacturers' flash units these days if you want dedicated operation. The AF360FGZ and AF540FGZ work best with the Pentax DSLRs.
If you're going to do your own setups and work with manual flash, anything with a low trigger voltage will work fine. I use the Sunpak 383, a Nikon SB30, a pair of Paterson EFlash panels, slaves, stands, etc for when I am doing that.
