My partner and I run several Mac OS X and Windows systems through the
Apple Airport wireless base station. It operates flawlessly and is
very easy to set up and administer with the supplied software,
particularly from Mac OS X but also from Windows.

The issues we've found are:

- If you're using the Windows software to administer the base
station, it is most reliable if when you are doing administration you
connect via an ethernet cable to the admin system. From a Mac OS X
system, admin via wireless is the norm and it's a piece of cake.

- When you set up the security parameters, be sure all the Windows
systems you want to connect have the appropriate level of security
support to match what you set up on the base station. Not all do.

- The wireless network password restrictions that are more rigid on
Windows systems ... something about 12 or 13 characters maximum. Be
sure to pick a password that is within the guidelines of the Windows
OS you are using.

I've set up about three dozen different 802.11a,b and g base stations
for my clients with mixed OS shops. The Apple Airport base stations
are by far the easiest to set up and administer, the most reliable in
operation.
