Well, you'd have to take it off your back, of course... :-)
When on snow or wet environment, backpacks that don't open from the
top are always inconvenient, because the side that goes towards your
back becomes wet when you put the pack down.

I think all of them have the same issue. However this seems to improve
with each generation of packs. I was surprised over all the
improvements in the CompuTrekker over the original PhotoTrekker that I
eventually wore out.

In the larger backpack class, I think Tamrac also have some very nice products.
