What camera? If it was with the K20, did you have high ISO noise  
reduction set to at least "weak?" I've experienced unusual color on  
some shots that were taken in mixed lighting. But I wouldn't call it  
blotchy. You might be seeing something different. If I can't get the  
color right, I just convert to BW. Not a perfect solution, but a  
workable one.
