Hi Peter, I must admit I have no answer to this question. I tried to meter with my Z-1p and with a Sekonic light meter on a grey card near the metering limit of the external meter (far below the limit of the built-in one) and the results were the same (indications in the finder twinking). I think there is a theoretical limit to the metering ability of the camera that can be exceeded in practice but that couldn't assure the proper exposure according to the factory testing (and we go back to the Schwarzschild effect...).
