Here's what I'd do ... either:

- Convert PEFs to DNG and keep the original PEFs aside as backup.
or
- Keep copies of your PEFs that are NOT imported into Lightroom 1.4
- DON'T convert K20D PEFs to DNG format

There's a timestamp corruption issue (the *only* thing that Lightroom  
will ever change in a native RAW file is the timestamp, and only on  
user demand normally), that's why you want to keep copies of your  
original PEF files around until 1.4.1 comes about: to make sure that  
you can always get back to an unmodified original RAW file.
